Although reflexology is a safe, suitable treatment for most people there are a few conditions that prevent treatment.
These are the main contra-indications to Reflexology:
Reflexology is a complementary therapy which involves massaging and applying pressure to specific reflex points of the feet that are believed to correspond with organs and glands within the body. Reflexology can benefit everyone and is a safe effective therapy that can balance and relax the body.
This is a question I get asked regularly. Everyone is different and there is no standard answer to this question. However, if you have a specific issue that you are hoping to address with reflexology then it is highly likely that you will need a course of treatments. Generally I find that people need at least 4 treatments to start to feel the real benefit of reflexology, this is because reflexology has a cumulative effect and so each treatment builds on the benefits felt from the previous treatment(s).
I advise clients to come for weekly treatments (if possible) to start off with so that we can build on the positive effects of the previous treatment instead of starting from square one each time we see each other. After a period of time (usually 4-6 weeks) treatments can be spaced out to fortnightly and then to monthly and then to as and when you feel the need to come.
Following a treatment you will normally feel very relaxed and calm. Reflexology lets the body restore balance and to create homeostasis – the body's own healing ability. This can create a temporary healing often lasting around 24hrs. This should be seen as a positive sign that healing is taking place, and a temporary phase.
Some examples of possible temporary healing reactions:
Reflexology can help you even when you're feeling well. Many clients have regular treatments in order to maintain a balance and homeostasis within the body thus helping to prevent any further health issues. In addition my clients tell me that it is a wonderful way to relax and feel pampered, and to get some rare and important 'you-time'!
I treat each client as an individual and adapt each treatment to relate to their specific needs. I treat a wide variety of health issues ranging from stress and anxiety to back pain and digestive issues. I myself received reflexology in the past whilst trying for a family and strongly believe it played a part in my ability to conceive.
I am fully trained in Reflexology and also insured as a Practitioner.
I studied at The Devon Academy, graduating with a merit in ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Reflexology.
I am a Member of the Association of Reflexologists (the UK's Professional Body for Reflexology).
On your first visit I will take a full medical history and we will discuss any specific issues you may be having. Please be assured that I treat all my clients' personal details with the upmost confidentiality. I will then work on your feet by massaging and applying pressure to certain areas. I will also hold specific reflex points using a 'linking' technique to bring about a deep balance within the body.
Any problem areas will feel grainy (like small crystals) to me and this will indicate an imbalance in the corresponding part of the body. There can be a small amount of discomfort in these areas but this is only fleeting and generally the treatment is extremely relaxing and enjoyable.
I use Neals Yard products which are 100% natural & organic. I have a wide range of products to view, try & purchase in my home treatment room.
As well as traditional methods I am also trained in Precision Reflexology, which is a light touch technique that can access your subtle energy by 'linking' two or more reflex points simultaneously. My clients find this style of treatment gentle as well as highly beneficial.
